Introduction

The LOGS organizational structure is centered around samples. Every measurement is conducted on a sample, and therefore, all datasets should be connected to samples. Samples can be described by customizable sample types (Custom Type - LOGS). A LOGS admin can define different sample types, consisting of a basic section common to every sample and additional sections with custom fields (Custom fields - LOGS). By default, a basic sample containing only the basic section is available.

In addition to the sample name, samples can be unambiguously referenced by a unique identifier (ID) which can be found in the URL after the #.

For example: name.logs-repository.com/group/#samples/22

Sample Table

The Sample Table provides an overview of all samples you have access to. By default, the table is organized into three tabs: All, My Samples, and Trash. You can create custom tabs with selected views by clicking the + on the right. Additionally, an admin can create Global Tabs for all users. To search and filter samples, use the free text search bar at the top of the table or the filter options in the left panel. The column settings can be adjusted by clicking the column icon on the right of the column header. More information about table usage can be found here Tables - LOGS.

Sample Detail Page

Clicking on a sample redirects you to its detail page. On the left, all metadata details of the sample are listed and organized into sections defined by the admin. On the right, all linked entities of the sample, such as datasets or notebook mentions, are listed. These references are clickable and redirect you to the detail page of the corresponding LOGS entity. You can search and filter within these reference tiles using the search bar or by changing the Sort by options. You can also directly download a linked dataset from here.

Create samples

Navigate to Samples in the navigation bar and click Add Sample. Choose the type of sample you want to create. Mandatory fields (marked with an asterisk) must be filled out to add a new sample. “Date prepared” and “Prepared by” are filled in automatically but can be changed.

Clone samples

To add a new sample similar to an existing one, click on Clone in the Additional options menu (three dots). This opens the Add New Sample dialog with pre-filled fields from the reference sample. Make any necessary changes or additions and click the save button.

Edit samples

Click Edit on the sample detail page to open the editing dialog, where you can modify all properties of a sample. After editing, click save. Alternatively, you can multi-select samples on the samples page and click Edit to modify multiple samples simultaneously. Properties with multiple values indicate different values for the corresponding field. Editing these properties will override them for all selected samples. To avoid unintentional changes, use the Advanced Edit option in the lower left corner of the edit dialog.

Delete samples

Select one or more sample in the sample table and choose Move to Trash in the Additional options menu (three dots). Trashed samples can be found in the Trash tab on top of the search bar.  When selecting a sample in the Trash tab you can either choose in the Additional options menu (three dots) to Restore the Sample or permanently Delete it. You were then asked if you are sure to permanently delete this record. If you click Delete, then the sample is permanently deleted. Please note: You cannot delete samples that are linked to other LOGS entities like datasets or notebook mentions.

Export sample table

Select one or more sample in the sample table and choose Export to CSV in the Additional options menu (three dots). Only information of the selected samples are exported. You can make modifications of the exported CVS file.
